Kimi ni Todoke

Kimi ni Todoke is one of the cutest romances out there. I looked for the anime after falling head over heels in love with the manga and I'm glad to say, the anime does not disappoint and it follows the exact same plot (for now at least). The story is based around Sawako and Kazehaya. Sawako has no friends, she terrifies  every one with her resemblance to a character in a horror movie and every one believes she is cursed and can see ghosts. Kazehaya is complete opposite, boys want to be his friend and all the girls love him, he's a natural people person. But when these two are put in the same class Kazehaya finds it impossible to leave Sadako alone and begins to help her become part of the class. Sawako makes friends with Yano, Yoshida and Ryo and before she knows it, her feelings for Kazehaya become greater than admiration and respect and Kazehaya finds himself much too embarrassed in front of Sawako. But they are both too innocent! It's not all good though! Because of Kazehaya's popularity, Sawako quickly makes enemies, a concept that she can't quite grasp. With the rumours and the misunderstandings Sawako slowly becomes more open to other people. It's a super cute tale of acceptance, friendship and love. It develops really slowly, but that's what makes it special! I just love this plot line so much!

And the charcters too! Every one of them is just so lovable!! Sawako is so optimistic and friendly. She always tries her best. How could any one hate this girl! She's just too precious! Her lack of friendships makes her quite awkward and that just makes her even cuter! And all the character development; watching her grow up like a proud mother. Every time she takes a step forward, I feel so happy for her!! On the other hand is Kazehaya. I actually find his friendliness too unrealistic; it kind of annoys me at times. But when he's with Sawako being all cute and innocent I have to forgive him. Like when he adopts a stray dog and decides to keep it a secret between him and Sawako or when he tries to pass her a note in class. Also, he manages to get Sawako included so easily: how can he be so perfect? These two are such a perfect pair! Except they are both romantically awkward, so it'll take a lot of time for them to actually get together! Then there's Yano and Yoshida. Yano is the straight man, always there to stop Yoshida getting carried away. That's my nice way of saying that she's the boring character. So skipping straight onto Yoshida. The liveliest of the lot if you ask me! She has a delinquents background but she's actually really sensitive! She just gets emotional over everything, especially when Sawako is involved! Also she has an obsession with ramen, how cool?
The art is cute too! All the fluffiness: the flowers, the bubbles, the gleaming lights. It's really pretty! Although having said that, I'm not too keen on the actual people. There's not any thing wrong with them, just a personal preference against it. And what's with the school uniform in this place? I swear every one is wearing a different uniform! It's so weird seeing people in all sorts of jackets and vests, blue, yellow and grey. I'm half expecting a character to show up wearing a sailor uniform!!
Although I have read the manga I don't find the anime boring because it's just such an awesome story! Watching some make friends for the first time really pushes the feel good factor and the total innocence of the romance totally pulls at the heart strings! Sadako is quite possibly the best character in all of anime and Kazehaya is just too cute. I know it'll be a long time, but I can't wait for the two of them to profess their love. And that pretty much sums up this shows allure: you know it's going to happen but you have to wait for it! It's the perfect romance for every one!

  1. I remember reading this manga and that it was really cute! It was a bit stereotypically shoujo, but it was very sweet and a good read nonetheless. I completely agree with you review :)
